This months tip:
Did you know that you can set your computer to automatically open up a web page as soon as you turn the
machine on?
For people like me who are on broadband and who's first task in the morning is Internet related, this can save precious moments.
All you have to do is drag the address of the website you want to go to into the startup folder. Here's how;
Open the web page you want.
Click and hold your mouse button on the little blue 'e' icon next to the page address in your browser's address bar.
Drag the icon down onto the green Start button (don't let go yet!)
Wait a second and the panel will open.
Continue to drag the icon onto the green 'All Programs' triangle.
Now look for the Startup folder and drag onto that, a drop down menu will appear next to it.
Drag into the drop down menu and let go of the mouse button!
Now whenever your start your computer, that web page will appear.
(To remove it at a later date, open the startup folder and right click on the website's name. Select 'delete' and it will be gone.)

Does your computer open files with the wrong program?
Quite often, when you download some new software, it changes your computer so that when you double-click certain files they will always open in itself.
This can be very irritating.
If this happens to you, sorting the problem out is very easy.
Just right-click on the file in question (doesn't matter whether it is a text file, a picture, a sound file, anything that opens in some other program) and select from the menu, 'Open With'
At the bottom of the box that comes up you'll see 'Choose Program'. Click on that.
Now you'll get a box up with all kinds of programs on your computer that you can select. And if your preferred choice isn't there, there is a browse button to help you find what you want.
Under all that is a check box that says 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
If you check it, then every time you try to open a file with a similar extension (.txt, .jpg or whatever it might be) it will open in the program you have
selected.
